Hi. I have registered for your show, and it will be my first. I am trying to figure out what time I am supposed to be there ready to go...? I will be driving from St. Joseph, MO, which is a 45 minute drive I am told...Any information will be greatly appreciated. :D

First Time

Postby lhudson5 on Mon Mar 09, 2009 3:24 pm

Well this is my first time to step into the fitness world. I'll be 39 this month and have been training since end of December. I'm absolutely scared to death to step out on that stage and now that I see there will be 750 people plus, I think I'm going to need some major confidence boosting. Can anyone please help me to understand what to expect the night of the show. I have never been to one and am not aware of one between now and the Liberty show. Everyone says you can't see the people in the audience but OMG! What is the typical size of the beginner and novice class? I think I'm in freak out mode. :)

Hudson - It is not nearly as scary as you might think. the crowds are always very supportive of competitors - You just concentrate on what you
need to do to make the experience successful for you. The crowd is exciting to see but they are supporting you.

Are you Figure or Bodybuilding ? I am 49 male bodybuilder in the Masters class - I have done the KC Golds previously - but have not done
the Liberty show yet - But I'm sending in my entry today. I'm doing the
liberty show April 18.

Nerves are normal - Believe me if I can do it - you can to.

Hudson, I will doing my first show in 3 weeks -- 3 WEEKS. Im nervous as well, but excited, because all the hard work and stress will pay off...I know that no matter what happens that night Im eating healthier and look the best I can since having two kids. Plus I think that being nervous is a good sign because you tend to train harder, or stay focused when you are thinking about it that much.
Hope this helps...if you are at the liberty show I will be the one that smiles because they dont know whats going on...Good luck!

I am sorry I have not been on here for awhile. We get super busy the last 3 weeks before the contest. Your freaking out is typical. One thing you have to understand especially with our contest being the first of the year that I would estimate that 60% of the competitors are beginners. We know this and try to make you as comfortable as possible and a fun experience. Being this is your first time, do not fixate on trying to win but try to make sure you come in at your best. Learn from this and if you do not place do not get down. Get the Video! It will show your weaknesses better than anything. then go back and work on them and pretty soon you will be a formidable competitor. This sport takes time for many. Those that have immediate success have been gym bodybuilders for years that did not know they were ready or were bashful about standing in their underwear in front of 700 people. I promise you that fear is quelled when you realize there are 100+ others doing the same thing. Once you are in the Electric environment the old competitive juices flow. You will be psyched and ready to go do battle.

You will of course go through your 1/4 turns. Make sure you have these down and make your T walk and poses as smooth as possible. One thing I see allot of of figure women do is not keep eye contact with the audience make sure to do this and do not go fast. A nice stroll walk is best. We mark the floor so you know where to stop on both ends. Look at them only out your corner of your eye. Do not stare at them. We do not dock you if you do not stop right at them. So try to keep eye contact instead. Now send me 50.00 for that info. LOL!!!

You asked about Novice Class size? Well at the NSSC contest you will most likely be with 10+ since we have 70 competitors this year. We have been blessed with being the largest Figure show really in this region or at least in the Drug Tested NANBF. So if you do decent in this one you will get a good sense of where you stand. Good luck and don't freak!

I had an opportunity to see a good portion of the bodybuilding competition and give the judging 2 thumbs up. This group enbraced the concepts of leanness, muscularity and presentaion with an even hand throughout the the groups I saw. They were right-on from first through fifth. I would put myself up to this combination of judges and feel good with any place they judged me at. My hope is NANBF would use these individuals throughout the year.

Thank YOU!

Thank you so much for your comment. We really do try to make sure that all our judges understand the ideal physique we are looking for. It makes us feel really good when we get acknowledged for this. Competitor size and Spectator size of an event are all to often what spells success but when I read something that commends our judging that is a reward in itself!

Thanks Again!!
