We may have 2 more!

Postby jarnold on Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:26 pm

I am hoping for Morgan Edwards and another Figure and Bodybuilder that were going to compete in a INBF contest but wanted to do the Golds later. Told them that they would then not have to pay for 2 memberships.

C'mon lets get a band wagon from KC and show the Nebraskan's how it's done!!! LOL!!!!

Postby NebraskaBarnes on Fri Jun 26, 2009 9:31 pm

You want to "show" the Nebraskans how it's done?
Should us six guys from Northeast Nebraska just forget about competing in the show in Norfolk????
Geeezzzze...I didn't know we were that bad.

This is gonna be fun! I can tell you Morgan Edwards is coming for sure now after I gave him a pep talk. He thought he was too skinny. He is just the leanest he has ever been and it is freaking him out LOL!!!! Kinda like that Martinez character? He looks the best I have seen him. I just hope he holds it in the next few weeks.
How you dudes lookin?

I am dieting now for Council Bluffs, so slap me if I try to get beer and some pizza at the after party!

Well I wasn't aware that the show already took place. I mean it sounds like we are already picking favorites and deciding who has the upper hand. Maybe I show bring my money somewhere else because I simply find this bias unprofessional. Everyone should be given a fair chance in this league. I am not in anyones favor and nor should any judge be. Its a conflict of interest that needs to be stopped. Seriously people......

Getting serious?

Postby jarnold on Mon Jun 29, 2009 3:32 pm

Natural18,
This is not what you think it is. This is just 3 guys that are veterans of the wars having some fun with some friendly banter. Believe me no one gets any special treatment once you hit the stage. All of the NANBF Promoters and judges take placing competitors very Seriously! We will not put up with biased judges. We can tell immediately when this happens and we do address this with them to validate their selection and quite simply are not asked to judge again. We also safeguard this with throwing out a high and a low score and take the average which eliminates problems anyway. This is why we alway have and odd number or amount of judges - 5 non Pro Qualifiers and 7 Pro Qualifiers.

Just because I am singling out a guy that is coming to the contest does not mean anything. He place 5th in Kansas City at my contest and I am a friend of his. So I would say he did not get any special treatment there. The contest before, Council Bluffs he won the Open short. Calm down. I promise you there is no bias and In my opinion sometimes it may be harsher for you if you are a veteran. If you have been seen many times by judges they expect you to improve or at least be as good as you last time.

*Please read my Thread I wrote about judging myths in the "Judging" Section.

This will be a fun and fair contest. This is just a forum for people to post their opions and ideas. It is not the stage and no one has been chosen. Lets all just have a good time and battle it out on stage. lets just see who's taking the BIG one home!

Good Luck to ALL of our competitors!

That is pretty funny! Similar to hearing many a person, in my 14 years promoting, telling me to my face they have never done a banned substance right after they flunked a polygraph.

Guys, this is going to be a great day for the Nebraskan bodybuilders that are farther west and as far as a that goes the region farther west. I promise you that you will be judged fairly. I really believe it will be a very smooth professionally done contest. Rene' and Jennifer traveled to several shows last year to learn to do it right. These are really great people. They were a very helpful to us this year working side by side with us and learning the ropes. Their hearts are in the right place as they are committed to the Drug Free mission as well.

I am really excited and hopeful you guys are too!

Natural18 Did you read my Judging Thread?

Postby jarnold on Tue Jun 30, 2009 3:59 am

Natural18. Did you read my Thread in the Judges area on the forum here? Yes there would seem by looking at it there could be bias. Show Promoters training competitors, Promoters competing, Friends of promoters competing. Ron is a Judge and competing now. If anyone would know if we are bias he should after test judging several times and being around us. There are many veteran competitors that we hold in high esteem. Don High competed in every contest last year and winning the Grand Prix and Sang the National Anthem for Free if I remember at 5-6 shows. I judged him myself 6 times and his placing's were almost never the same with me. Did he get special treatment then? He would be the first to tell you " No he did not." Will he get special treatment now? No. All it comes down to is that you better come to the show with a complete package. If you do your work you will place well. Pose well showing good symmetry, Good color, Leanness and size and therefore leaving no doubt and you will do fine.

more stuff

Postby NebraskaBarnes on Wed Jul 01, 2009 1:56 am

Yes John, from going through the test judging and seeing the other judges I agree it is hard to have a bias contest. What I have found is that bodybuilding judges are supposed to be able to identify a good bodybuilder when they see one. You don't even have to be a bodybuilder to do this! There are no hard and fast rules for judging bodybuilding shows. There are friends judging friends, trainers of athletes being judges, husbands judging the wife, ect. But, there are rules governing the way, such as presentation, symmetry, and muscularity. So I suppose there will always be a smack of bias or favor in the eye of the independant judge. We all have it as judges, after all, we are humans.
But how you get judged is safeguarded by the procedures. Judges are supposed to be able to look at competitors, watch them hit their poses, do their presentation and be able to come to a conclusion together as a group as to who is the best, the next best, the next and so on. So if a judge consistently has competitors in first place who everyone else has finishing last, or vice-versa, something is obviously wrong with that judge.
Bodybuilding is a for real sport and in any athletic competition, the winner is the winner, and anything else destroys the integrity of the event.

I know this is going to be a fun contest. Us athletes will battle it out and bring our best to the stage as we have always done.

to anyone reading this................ bodybuilding is a fun sport. I do it for that reason. Don't focus on the hype, what's being said, the other competitors cause that drags you down. Focusing on the negative will never get you anywhere and will only get you worked up with the end result being that it was all in your head. Go up on stage and pose your hearts out and believe in the sport and that will take you to your goals. I do it for the fun, for the crowd, and to stay healthy. Just remember that it's an idividual sport in which you are your own actual judge. Train hard and time will tell. Peace.

Judging is tough sometimes.

Postby jarnold on Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:11 am

One of the toughest thing I think it that you cannot be lured in by a super lean guy that has bad symmetry for example. One of the pet peaves I have is judges that do not "see" symmetry. Symmetry can only be built by balanced training as there are not too many people after puberty have perfect bodybuilder muscularity and balance. So symmetry is something that you are awarded for in doing your training right.

You know I will be honest yes there have been times that I would have loved to place someone I know better and really feel bad in placing them lower but rightfully so. I would feel worse however for the person I just screwed. I don't do guilt well. Unfortunately for the people I know I am kind of a hard liner and do no bend. I know that some bias buddy judging happened to me competing years ago in another federation I will not name. So I swore this would not happen to anyone that competes in my show or anyone I judged. I don't care about who they are. I judge only by the body and how it is presented. Of course the figure thing is another aspect with beauty thrown in.

Striations could not have written it better. Honestly even though I always wanted to win I actually do it for fun. Even when I finally won my Pro Status I happy on one hand but on the other it was like now I have to take this too seriously now. I really had allot more fun as an amateur. For one I was allot more competitive. Of course being at the twilight of my body at 52 being able to hang with even 40+ guys is very tough to do.

If you do this sport with Striations attitude I think you will go farther and stay with it for a long term sport. If you go into with the attitude of win, win, win only it will bite you in the butt. I have seen so many first time competitors throw shit fits over not winning. I think, What! One thing to remember is that if you are new at this an walk away with what you felt was a great placing your friends and family that have no idea of how we judge will tell you that you should have place better, got robbed or whatever. What to you was a fun time turns into a crummy evening. Wait till you see video or photo's. We usually get it right.

Bodybuilding takes time to master and really it is like golf you really never can master it. You always have room for improvement. There are always new and better competitors it seems that come out of the woodwork. So take each contest as a learning experience and eventually you will succeed.
