Brand New to Competing

Postby chessi.whittington on Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:26 pm

I am planning to compete for the first time in August. I have been interested since the first time I saw the Fitness America Pagent back in the early 90's but never allowed myself to think I could do it and I want to be sure I competing in a Natural Arena
Would love to get to know other ladies with like minded interests to help encourage one another and get knowledge from one another

Welcome! I've done three competitions so I'm pretty "new" too. Where are you located?

I am in Oklahoma - in the Oklahoma City area
I had been checking bodybuilding.com regularly for awhile looking for competitions here in OK, and finally found the one I am planning to compete in - picking an actual show with an actual date has really renewed my focus

Yes, getting a date on the calendar to focus on really gets you pumped. I'm in Iowa and am looking at the KC show and/or the Council Bluffs show in fall of '09.

First Show in 8 weeks - Liberty...eek

Postby taylor on Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:48 pm

I am competing in my first (figure) show ever, in less than 8 weeks, in Liberty. I read several posts mentioning how great of a show it is and now I am more nervous....and I am going for the Open Figure - aiming high!
Im so nervous...
Im will be coming from Iowa...oh no!

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. 1 Corinthians 9:24

Taylor & Danita,
John Arnold here Promoter for the NSSC. Have no fear we will walk you all through. Since we are the first contest of the year and tend to get allot of rookies we are pretty good at holding their hands through their first time. Our shows are normally comprised of about 70% newcomers. So you are not alone. Just have fun with this first one. We all want to do our best and would love to win. Don't focus on winning so much as just doing your best and feel happy that you actually stood in front 750 people and judges. That in itself is a huge accomplishment. Going Open is a real test but if someone told you have what takes that is a veteran or you have sized yourself up on your own , then why not? I never did Novice Nor did Becky when she competed.

Good Luck!
John and Becky Arnold
