sets and reps

Hey everyone, I wanted to see what kind of opinions and workouts there are out there leading up to contests...honestly I saw the abundance of information under the 'men's bodybuilding' heading and thought this section needed some as well :)

I'll start and hopefully there will be many others out there willing to share their workout preferences so we can learn from each other and those looking for some guidance can do the same...

Personally, I find my body responds best to a high weight, low-to-mid range reps, and multipe sets. I usually like around 8 reps per set, up to six sets per exercise with 90 to 120 sec rest periods, sometimes supersetting with unrelated muscle groups if I'm crunched for time. For weight, I like to use a weight that is heavy enough that I can complete the set without compromising my form, but wouldn't be able to do much more. I like this approach for upper and lower body.

Another quirk of mine is that I like to split my leg workout into different days...typically quads have their own special day, with hamstrings and calves grouped together. I find that I can give more attention to each that way.

Looking forward to reading everyone's training habits, rituals, etc :)

Hi Dawn,
I've been training for a while, so I find that I have to change my workouts every 4-6 weeks. Right now I'm training with weights 4 days a week, alternating body parts. I'm currently working bis/tris, the next workout will focus on legs/mostly the quads with some attention given to hamstrings and calves, next workout will focus on chest, /shoulders, and finally my back and more focus on my hamstrings and calves, but mostly straight leg dead lifts, cable work and lunges. This may sound insane to some, but I aim for a minimum of 5-6 exercises per body part, and I don't count reps, I work the muscle to failure with 30-60 sec rest between sets, for a total of 4-5 sets per exercise. I find that this works for me, since when I'm in the gym with my music, I get into a rhythm that just takes me outside of that "counting reps" mindset. I'll alternate the following 4-6 weeks focusing on sets, reps and an increase in weight. Believe it or not, I'm in and out of the gym within an hour, hour and a half max. I just love the iron, so I guess you could say I'm addicted!
Happy New Year to all and continued success in all your fitness goals! I look forward to meeting many of you as I continue my quest to get on stage and show off all my hard work!!! :D
My reps and my sets match my swagger.........
